LLC <br /> <br /> 8.0 Surface Water;, Ground Water, and Floodplain Permit <br /> Thi <br /> s section describes the existing water featUfes in and nearby the proposed <br /> mining permit area, potential impacts on water resources due to mining, and <br />' water requirements for the project. Local surface water features in the vicinity of <br /> the project are shown on Site Plan Map. A Gravel Well Permit and Temporary <br /> Substitute Supply Plan will be submitted to the Colorado State Engineer for <br />' approval. Most of the permit area is located within the 100-year floodplain of the <br /> South Platte River and a Floodplain Permit will be submitted to Adams County for <br /> approval. <br /> " <br />" <br /> Mining of the proposed excavation area of the permit will be by the <br />dry-mining <br /> method, pumping alluvial groundwater from within the areas to be mined after a <br /> slurry wall has been emplaced around the perimeter of the permit area and <br /> keyed into the shale bedrock underlying the sand and gravel of the deposit. <br /> Approximately one half the Slurry Wall will be built within 2 years of start-up of <br />' operations and the other half within 3 to 4 years (see Site Plan Map). This <br /> method will minimize offsite impacts to alluvial water supplies due to drawdown <br /> of the water table in the mining area by dewatering and will serve to create an <br /> isolated water-storage reservoir as part of the final reclamation of the site. <br /> Mining will expose approximately 7.0 surface acres the first year and 11.0 <br /> surface acres the second year and will slowly decrease every year after the <br />' second year, for the duration of the operation. <br />' Surface Water <br />The nearest major watercourse is the South Platte River, which flows along the <br />' western edge of the permit boundary. Final discharge from de-watering the <br />excavation areas of the permit site will be to the South Platte River. Prior to any <br />discharge activity to the South Platte River, the operator will obtain a CPDS <br />' Permit. <br />Groundwater <br />Wells located within 600-feet of the permit boundary for the site are shown in the <br />table included in this exhibit. The wells listed as being within 600-feet of permit <br />boundary are a mix of both alluvial and bedrock wells. It is not believed that any <br />of these wells are the primary source of domestic drinking water. <br />' Three alluvial wells ar<: owned by the applicant and located within the permit <br />area. Two of these wE~lls have historically been operated for farm irrigation and <br />' will be maintained for water for the aggregate and hatching operations, as well as <br />for replacing evaporative depletions incurred during Phase I of mining (for as <br />long as these wells are producing). A "change in use" application for these wells <br />' will be processed through the State Engineers Office.
