1
' Rob Laird
Speer Property Preliminazy Investigation
' Page 3
' floodplains, areas with vegetation in the facultative wet or obligate classification, and
jurisdictional wetlands. Etased on the preliminary investigation, there does not appear to
be potential orchid habitat within the property surveyed. The wetland areas are
' dominated by monocultural stands of reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea) or have no
suitable mesic adjacent slopes (the pond areas).
Discussion and Recommendations
Jurisdictional wetlands and waters of the United States are present within the property
investigated. If developm~°nt envisions impacting any of the generally identified areas, a
jurisdictional wetland delineation should be undertaken to characterize the wetlands and
establish azeal extent. If necessary, Army Corps of Engineers permitting could then be
pursued.
Potential Preble's meadow jumping mouse habitat was observed within the property,
' along the primary alluvial terrace of the South Platte River within the cottonwood
woodland. If development envisions disturbance within 100 feet of the habitat, it is
probable that USFWS will requve alive-trapping survey. Surveys may be conducted
between June 1 and September l5. If Preble's is found, a mitigation plan will be
requ'ved.
' Chazacteristic potential habitat for the Ute ladies-tresses orchid does not appeaz to be
present in the property. P, disqualification request can be prepared based on additional
' site investigation and submitted to USFWS. With USFWS concurrence, no additional
surveys would be required for the orchid.
' If I can provide additional information or clarification regarding survey or delineation
requvements, please call me at your convenience.
' Sincerely,
j.
' Michael S.
