Two general observations
were noted. First, Exhibit 1 was included and is a map of the monitoring site
locations. This exhibit is not accurate or complete. Possibly, a better alternative
for future reports is to reference the two maps in the approved permit, which
accurately depict all monitoring stations. Second, temperature values have been
recorded as Fahrenheit and Celsius. Please add a footnote in future reporting which
clearly notes the discrepancy.
Surface Water Quantity and Quality
Two stations on the Purgatoire River are monitored for flow and field parameters on
a quarterly basis, and a lab sample is analyzed on an annual basis. PRS-2 is located
upstream of all Golden Eagle mining activities and PRS-3 is located downstream of
all mining activities. One water sample was conducted at each of these locations,
in accordance with the annual sample list on page 2.05-47d, Table 23 of the
permit. Flow is slightly higher (9%) at the downstream site and water quality with
regard to salinity is slightly higher, with EC values recorded of 198 umhos/cm and
214 umhos/cm from upstream to downstream. Overall water quality is acceptable
according to the standards for all uses.
