The general dip of the bedrock In the West Pk area la on the order of 3 to 5
degrees to tho NNE. Localized undulations In the bedrock create localized varlatlon6
In the dip angle and dlroctlon. There era several existing slides of various slzos In
the goners) vicinky. The unfavorable dip dlroctlon, presence of low irlctlon clayatone
layers, and seepage in combination can Create marginal to unstable condklone. At
this time evidence of algnMicant bedrock movement or (allure has not developed.
Alternatives to Improve condklone era Ilmked. Meaauros to Improve stabllRy
oondklons wero performed In the spoil fill area end are planned In the existing pond
a11de area. We do not believe a elide In the seepage area will effect the spoil fill and
removsl of the elide mane will control possible effects on sediment pond operatlona.
We antlclpate that excavation of the Wsat Pk will cut off a etgnlflcant recharge area
of the seeps. We do not believe eddklonal Irrveetigatlon or atablilzetion efforts are
required et this time.
We recommend the following drainage Improvements for the seepage areas.
The topsoil In the seep areas should be removed to expose the seep. A gravel dram
(2 Inch, clean rock) should bs Inetellod end provided wkh a gravky outlet. A
conceptual detail of the proposed drain la shown on FIg. 2. The drsln can be
installed at each slgniflcsnt asap location.
We do not believe monkoring of the seep areas to detect movement Is
merk^d. If elgntficant movement of bedrock occurs we believe k will be readily
apparent.
Sooll FIII Stebllkv
During stripping operations and drain construction for the excess spoil fill,
seep areas were tdentlfled near the face of the flII and wero provided wkh drains end
lateral connectlona to the main underdraln (Observations of Stripping Operations,
Job No. 21,952; letter dated July 30, 1994). An observation well will be Installed on
the first bench of the till end survey monuments Installed. Quarterly monkoring of
these festurea is recommended.
Baasd on our field observations, ws believe the construction of the excess
spoil fill has been In conformenn wkh the design racommendatlona presented In our
Oeoteehntcal Inveatlgatlon, Weat Pk l.xcese Spoil Disposal Ska (Job No. 18,516,
report dated March 1,1991). Seepsge areas evident during stripping wars provided
wkh drams and the main underdraln exceeds the length recommsndatlona In our
previous report. At this time ws have not observed condklone which we bellove
compromise the stability of the fill. We believe the proposed monkoring program la
adequate to detect water buildup near the face which could aNect stability,
GOL0Wri1 GOAL COMPANY L P.
cTLrc a~oo~ 3
9 lt:B5444SBE0E «NOSdWOHl/l10 WdBS:L SB-9 -L NOSdWOHl/110: A9 1N3S
