CAMAS America, Inc.
I I January 1996
Page 3
5. In the northeast area of the North Quary, there aze frequent occurrences of
adverse jointing. This jointing is primarily along foliation in the gneiss with an
east-west strike and a dip to the south. The large planar slide surface at the east
end of present excavations is an expression of this joint system. As a result of this
jointing, it is unlikely that south facing slopes having an inclination steeper than
1 H:1 V would be stable or have satisfactory performance. It is recommended that
you continue to observe conditions regularly and that highwall and bench config-
urations be adjusted accordingly within the context of the Observational Method.
It has been our pleasure to continue working with Cooley personnel at the Morrison
Quarry to provide ongoing geotechnica] stability evaluations and mine plan modifica-
tions. Please call either Alan or Kent if you have any questions.
With best regards,
HALEY & ALDRICH. INC.

Kent A. Pease, P.E.
Senior Engineer

Alan L.
