Bowie Resources Limited
Bowie No. 2 Mine •
1997 Annual Hydrology Report
Surface Water Monitoring Stations: PONDS
Stock ponds P-1 through P-5 are monitored quarterly for 1.) Inflow; 2.) OutBow; and 3.) Water
level below spillway outlet or depth of water in the pond measured from the bottom of the pond.
Feld data collected during the 1997 sampling season is consistent with baseline information
provided in the permit application.
Surface Water Monitoring Stations: SPRINGS
Fifteen springs within the permit boundary were monitored during the 1997 monitoring season in
accordance with the Hydrologic Monitoring Plan included in the permit application. This plan
indicates that identified springs w-ll be inspected quarterly for field parameters with fiill suite
laboratory parameters required on springs with flows greater than five (5) gallons per minute.
During the construction phase of the mine, fora (4) of these springs (S-6, S-7, S-9 and 5-15) were
eliminated by road and portal bench construction activities. The 1997 field and laboratory
analysis is consistent with baseline data provided m the permit application.
Surface Water Monitoring Stations: STREAMS AND DITCHES
Nineteen surface water monitoring stations mcludmg the North Fork of the Gunnison, Terror _•
Creek, Hubbard Creek, Freeman Gulch, the Deer Trail Ditch, Stephens Draw and Gulches A
through D aze monitored quarterly for field parameters and semi-annually for fitll suite analysis.
The results of the 1997 field and laboratory studies aze consistent with baseline information
supplied in the permit application.
Surface Water Monitoring Stations: SMALL AREA EXEMPTIONS
The effects of the five Small Area Exemptions included within the permit azea are monitored
through the sample points described in the permit application and further described herein. The
runoff of all SAE areas is duetted by ditches, berms and culverts to sediment traps consisting of
straw bales, s~7t fences or other approved devices. These sediment traps slow and remove
sediment from the runoff of the SAE azeas.
Runoff from the material storage azea and haul road is directed to ditch 11-E 1. The sample point
for this SAE is the outlet of culvert GFI.
Runoff from the pump station located near the Deer Trail Ditch will not be sampled as little runoff
is expected after the initial construction and disturbance is re-vegetated. Additionally, any
overflow from the pump station due to mechanical emergencies would simply return Deer Trail
Ditch water to its source. Runoff is currently duetted through a sediment trap consisting of straw
bales, silt fences or other approved devices. •
Page 2
