r
Mr. Murari P. Shrestha
-3-
October 14, 1993
mine inflows and consequent impact to the White River as the
mine progresses northward. The increased salts observed as
the mine has progressed northward may be due in part to the
presence of a syncline whose nadir axis may be located in the
center of Section 25, giving the ground water an extremely
bad quality downdip due to the geological structure
preventing a flushing of salts to occur. Additional wells
near the synclinal axis may verify this and aid the mine in
determining the source of elevated TDS. A possible location
for a well cluster would be at the northern edge of the
permit boundary in Section 25. The wells should monitor the
upper and lower sandstone facies and Siltstone - Coal
Facies. The well cluster should be installed early enough so
that it may be sampled concurrently with the wells mentioned
in 4 above, before they are undermined.
If you have any questions, feel free to give me a call.
Sincerely,
~ ~. ~
Barbara Pavlik
Reclamation Specialist
BP/amm
8986E
