1
' MINREC, INC. ANNUAL HYDROLOGIC REPORT PAGE 4
1 The spillway systems for the ponds were revised in order to provide
for the increased flow through the treatment pond system. All
' three ponds originally had a four inch diameter primary spillway
and a four inch diameter emergency spillway. A six inch diameter
' primary spillway was installed in the long pond and treatment pond
T-2. The emergency spillways for both of these ponds will be the
existing four inch diameter emergency spillway and the four inch
' diameter primary spillway which was converted to an emergency
spillway. Therefore the long pond and treatment pond T-2 will each
have a six inch diameter primary spillway and two four inch
' diameter pipes to serve as emergency spillways.
An single open-channel spillway will serve as the spillway system
' for treatment pond T-1. This open-channel spillway conveys flow
from treatment pond T-1 to pond T-2.

1

1
1
1
A table of the No. 3 Mine water level measurements and a graph
which shows the increase and decrease in water level over time are
presented in Appendix III. The water level in the mine increased
11.0 feet during the year from September 19, 1994 to June 26, 1995
when the mine started discharging iron laden water as explained
above.
MINE WATER QUALITY
The quality of the No. 3 Mine discharge was measured twice monthly
during the fourth quarter of 1994 through the time the mine
discharges were combined on August 11, 1995. The quality of the
discharge from the mine showed little change from previous years
until the mine started discharging iron laden water on or about
June 26, 1995. Measurements on that day showed flow of 67.5
gallons per minute with a potentially dissolved iron content of
6.21 ppm. This compares with the average flow measurements for the
prior five years as summarized below.
NO. 3 MINE DISCHARGE
Year 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994
Flow (gpm) 6.7 6.8 5.4 10.4 9.8
Water from the No.l Mine continued to be treated by the passive
water treatment system.
