1•
•

2.2.5 EPO4O
EP040 is comprised of 10.3 acres of
moderately sloping revegetation that has a
predominately northerly aspect. This unit
was seeded in 2003 and therefore, has
undergone two growing seasons prior to
sampling in 2005. A total of 25 plant taxa
were observed in the unit (see Table AB-1).
Ground cover in EP040 consisted of 44,9%
live vegetation, 1.6% rock, 31.9% litter, and
bare soil exposure of 21.7%. Perennial cover
across the unit averaged 14.7% with annual
and biennial cover averaging 30.1%. The
dominant taxa were field pennycress, pinnate
tansymustard, thickspike wheatgrass, and
streambank wheatgrass with 14.9%, 6.9%,
4.6%, and 3.1% average cover, respectively.
Woody plant density was determined from 15
belt transects. Density (Table 2) totaled 0
young and mature stems per acre. With
regard to diversity, EP040 exhibited 4
perennial grasses and 0 perennial fortis with
between 3% and 50% relative cover.
4 5 6
e
. , ..
9 le
~, ;;~
43.
.:
_ls :.
..
Mao 6-EP040 ,~ --~}~-
Vepetaeon Semginy wmt ioutior. xoos ""~":~'
zaossamdoroPOm ,.a_...,m~, _._----'
sue. t,s, t,:
populations are subdued unit-wide. Although
cover by the early-sera) species, such as field
pennycress, is elevated, ground cover by perennials appears sufFcient to progress to dominance over the
next few years. Overall, Unit EP040 exhibits good diversity and perennial cover levels for two-year old
revegetation and should be monitored again in 2007 (fourth growing season).
Noxious weeds appear to be well
controlled in this unit and the annual bromes
Kennecott Energy Co. / Colovryo Mine
Page 16
Revegetation Monitoring - 2005
