• 1994 Annual Hydrologic Report Page 2 <br />The hydrologic monitoring program requires the sampling of springs <br />SP-1 and SP-3 for flow, pH and conductivity twice each year. This <br />monitoring is done to determine if the quality of the springs is <br />impacted by water which may seep into the alluvium from the flooded <br />mine workings. In May and September the conductivity of SP-1 was <br />820 and 860 uhmos/cm respectively. Both values are higher than the <br />historical average of 734 uhmos/cm but lower than the historic high <br />of 990 uhmos/cm. In May the conductivity of SP-3 was 670 uhmos/cm <br />which is higher than its historical average and slightly greater <br />than the historical high of 666 uhmos/cm. In September the <br />conductivity of SP-3 was 630 uhmos/cm which is greater than its <br />historical average of 591 uhmos/cm but less than the historic high <br />of 666 uhmos/cm. The pH of the spring water, both SP-1 and SP-3, <br />is within an acceptable range. <br />The enclosed graph shows that the conductivity of spring SP-1 has <br />consistently been below its historic maximum during the period 1989 <br />through 1994. For Spring SP-3, the enclosed graph shows that its <br />conductivity has consistently been above its historic average and <br />below its historic maximum except during 1993 when the measured <br />conductivity of SP-3 was about 12$ greater than it historic <br />maximum. <br />• The hydrologic monitoring program provides for monitoring to <br />determine if run-off from the mine site has any impact on the water <br />quality in the Carbon Ditch. SP-D is the upstream monitoring point <br />and SP-DA is the downstream monitoring point on the Carbon Ditch. <br />SP-D is located on the Carbon Ditch at a point that would not be <br />impacted by surface run-off from the mine site. SP-DA is located <br />downstream on the Carbon Ditch at a point that could be impacted by <br />surface run-off from the mine site. Both points are monitored <br />during May and September for field parameters and total suspended <br />solids, (TSS). In May the TSS for SP-D and SP-DA was 370 and 410 <br />respectively. In September SP-D was dry. The TSS. measurement <br />taken in May indicates that no significant degradation of the <br />quality of flow occurred on this stretch of the Carbon Ditch. <br />The sediment pond did not discharge during the year. The pond did <br />not have any signi~i \ nt amount of water in it during the year. A <br />"spring" was notedlis t e northeast corner of the pond. During May <br />the pH and conduct}'vit of the Spring was measured (ph = 7.9 cond <br />= 1800 uhmos/cm). Vlu ing September the "spring" was just a damp <br />spot so no water same a could be taken. The alluvial piezometers (P-1 & P-2) showed water <br />levels consistent with prior years averages. <br />
