1

Area 4
Repair and maintenance of the grade along the railroad right-of-way
necessitated some reseeding.
Area 9
A new haul road to the north soil stockpile was constructed with
subsequent roadside revegetation accomplished.
Tailing deposition and water acreage totaling 636 acres at the end of
1985 were well below the 715 acres which were forecasted for the 1985-86
surety period due in part to the two-month shutdown.
Area 13
A fill area on the county road near Area 13 failed during above-average
1984 spring runoff. The problem necessitated reopening the borrow area to
supply the county with material for road repair. Work on the road and
surface dressing of the borrow area was completed in November 1984, and the
area was seeded in 1985.
Area 21
A new haul road to the north soil stockpile was constructed. A good
portion of the time for the summer soil salvage-stockpile program was lost
due to a July and August operational shutdown, although 6,850 cubic yards
of soil were stockpiled.
Area 23
Revegetative stabilization by grass seeding was begun in the fall on
some unused construction roads and associated slopes.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS
Monitoring of various environmental programs which may have a bearing on
the Reclamation Plan continues to receive attention. Highlights of selected
programs for 1985 are as follows:
Soil-Tailing Test Plot
As previously mentioned during a 1985 MLRD inspection, we sampled the
soil and vegetation in the test plot this summer. We will provide data and
reports to you as they become available.
