Additional Sheets
1998 Annual Report
Pueblo West Pit
M-77-573
Transit Mix of Pueblo
Anniversary Date: March 22
Overview of Permit Year: During the 1997/1998 operating year, the most significant event involved
the start of the implementation of the amendment. The amendment was submitted in August of 1997
and subsequently approved. This amendment involved a complete redesign of the operations on the
north side of the river.
In other aspects, the extensive revegetation program implemented previously continued to
show signs of development and also some problems. Those problems will be detailed under
Revegetation.
Other than these two general areas, the operation remained much as it had in previous years.
Affected Lands: This operation, containing 341.67 acres, can be divided into many different categories
of affected land. These categories range from extraction to revegetation. For purposes of this report,
affetted land means any land disturbed but not released from bond. That is, any land previously
permitted, but released from bond, is not included in the affected land total. The following table
summarizes the acreages in each of the broad categories used.
Acreage Accounting
(all three annual report maps combined)
Total Affected Land 205.5 acres
Total Water Surface 105.7 acres
Total Soil Replaced 37.0 acres
Total Revegetation in progress 37.0 acres
Total Unreclaimed but disturbed 120.2 acres
Total Unaffected (larger blocks only) 71.1 acres
Affected Land + Unaffected Land 276.6 acres
Please note that if the Total Affected Land (205.5 acres) and the Total Unaffected Land (71.1
acres) are added the total is about 65 acres less than the permit area (341.67 acres). The land in that 65
acres is unaffected land, but is contained in small pieces scattered here and there throughout the
permit area. These pieces were too small to show on the map. Much of the area included in this 65
acres is in the thin corridor along the river and includes the river bank and setback of the operation.
Thus, although it appears there is land unaccounted for, this is not true. In essence, this is an artifact
of the way the permit boundary is defined. No affected land is located outside the permit boundary.
Transit Mix of Pueblo 1998 Annual Repori M-77-573 Pueblo West Pit Page 1 of 3
