• III 1111111111111 III • <br />999 <br />Logan Wash Mioe <br />Annual Report <br />March 23, 2000 -March 23, 2001 <br />Permit No.: M-197724 <br />[ntroductioo <br />This annual report has been prepared N accordance with regulations of the State of Colorado Division of <br />Minerals and Geology (DMG) and the regulations promulgated by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation <br />Board. The information in this report pertains to the period March 23, 2000 to March 23, 2001 (reporting <br />period). Projected reclamation activities for the following year are also presented. <br />The Logan Wash Mine, located approximately 12 miles northeast of DeBeque, Colorado, is managed by <br />Glenn Springs Holdings, Inc. (GSHI) for Occidental Oil Shale, Inc. Harding ESE (formerly Harding <br />Lawson Associates) is the consulting operator of the site. A general site location map for the Logan Wash <br />Mine is presented ta Figure 1. <br />This annual report summarizes the reclamation status of the Logan Wash Mine Oil Shale property. During <br />the reporting period, no surface reclamation work was conducted on the property or adjoining BLM <br />property. Some piping repairs and modifications were made to the retort drainage system inside the mine <br />and outside the mine near the evaporation pond. At this time, GSHI requests [o remain on Temporary <br />Cessation status at the Logan Wash Mine Site. GSHI is in the process of preparing a scope of work for <br />reclamation at Logan Wash Mine and will notify DMG as soon as possible regarding removal from <br />Temporary Cessation status. <br />The annual report is organized into the following sections: <br />• Section l: Introduction <br />• Section 2: General Site Activities <br />• Section 3: Disturbed Acreage Status <br />• Section 4: Reclamation Activities in 2000 <br />• Section 5: Other Work Activities <br />• Section 6: Reclamation m the Year 2001 <br />• Section 7: Anticipated Disturbance in the Year 2001 <br />Please refer to Figure 1, the Logan Wash Mine location map, and Figure 2, the Logan Wash Mine site map <br />for features discussed in this report. <br />2.0 General Site Activities <br />General site activities at the Logan Wash Mine Site doting the reporting period consisted of routine <br />maintenance and monitoring. Maintenance activities included periodic inspections of mine roads, portals, <br />and underground drainage systems associated with [he retorts and general mine workings. Monitoring and <br />sampling activities included: (1) Iwo NPDES ouffalls on a weekly basis with sampling on a monthly or <br />quarterly schedule, (2) sampling of mine-water discharge and monitoring of groundwater downgradient of <br />the site under the clostue monitoring program. and (3) measuring flow rates of the mine-water discharge <br />and retort-water discharge on a weekly basis. <br />The closure monitoring program, as mandated by DMG, began N February 2000 with background <br />sampling events at compliance Well LWCW-lA and at Ote clean (non-retort) mine water discharge pipe, in <br />\ accordance with Technical Revision 2, Proposed Closure Plan for Logan Wash Mine Retorts (Retort <br />Closure Plan) and associated DMG correspondence. Background sampling will continue for at least 5 <br />quarters through at least June 2001, so that numeric protection levels (NPLs) can be established. It is <br />\ anticipated that the closure monitoring program will continue up to 5 years (approximately March, 2005). <br />\ <br /> <br />
