• INTRODUCTION
The year 1988 was eventful Eor the Orchard Valley West Mine, albeit not as plan-
ned. During January, there was no demand Eor the coal and therefore no produc-
tion. Production resinned in February at a very small scale with one shift per
day producing coal on a 4 day work week. Coal orders started picking up during
the second quarter and all of a sudden enough coal could not be produced from
the one section mine.
Production and profits during 1988 were favorable enough to attcact a buyer for
the mine and on December 1, Cyprus Minerals purchased the Orchard Valley and Or-
chard Valley West Mines, known as Colorado Westmoreland Inc., from Westmoreland
Coal Company.
Hydrology and Subsidence data were gathered, recorded, and are presented in this
report. Cyprus Orchard Valley Coal Corporation's 1988 Annual Hydrology and
Subsidence Report is submitted in compliance with stipulation Nos. 4 and. 5
attached to Permit C-038-83 as revised.
The topics to be discussed are as follows: 1988 Production and Geologic Condi-
tions; 1988 Subsidence Impacts; 1988 Hydrology Impacts; 1989 Mining Projections;
1989 Projected Subsidence Impacts; and 1989 Projected Hydrology Impacts.
C
LJ
