• Introduced annual and biennial (orbs did not contribute to total vegetation cover but shepherd's <br />purse, prickly lettuce, tarweed, twolobe speedwell, pennycress, salsify, and tower mustard <br />were also present. <br />Total vegetation cover averaged 66.8 percent while standing dead, litter, and bare soil averaged <br />2.4, 26.4, and 4.4 percent, respectively. Species density averaged 29.9 species per 100 sq. m. <br />Alfalfa was not observed in this reference unit but all other herbaceous vegetation averaged <br />1,109.9 pounds of biomass production per acre (Table 18). <br />Shrub Density <br />Shrub density data were not collected in this unit. <br />Shrub Establishment Data <br />Plot 91-1 <br />• Native shrubs averaged 97.1 individuals per acre with Saskatoon serviceberry and big <br />sagebrush contributing two-thirds (Table 39). Chokecherry and mountain snowberry <br />accounted for the balance. <br />Native shrubs averaged 72.8 individuals per acre (Table 40). Saskatoon serviceberry and <br />mountain snowberry each contributed roughly half. <br />Plot 91-3 <br />Native shrubs averaged 335.9 individuals per acre (Table 41). Big sagebrush contributed <br />two-thirds of this while Saskatoon serviceberry, chokecherry, and mountain snowberry <br />accounted for the balance. Dead big sagebrush and mountain snowberry were also observed. <br />Native shrubs averaged 647.5 individuals per acre (Table 42). Chokecherry accounted for half <br />of this average and Saskatoon serviceberry comprised one-third. Big sagebrush and mountain <br />snowberry accounted for the balance. <br />• 21 <br />
