Blue wildrye ( mu g~~.), Montana <br />wheatgrass, and beardless bluebunch wheatgrass were also present. Introduced annual grasses <br />averaged 1.2 percent of total vegetation cover. Rabbitfoot grass (POIVDO(~ monspeliensjs) <br />contributed more than half of this percentage. Cheatgrass and Japanese brome comprised the <br />balance. <br />Introduced perennial forbs were second in dominance in this unit with 2'7.4 percent of total <br />vegetation cover. Alfalfa accounted for half of this while cicer milkvetch comprised one-third. <br />Canada thistle and butter and eggs (Linaria vulgaris) contributed the balemce. Blue lettu<:e <br />( c u ica ssp. p~lchella) and buckhorn plantain (Plantaao lanced) were present. <br />Native perennial forbs, the most diverse lifeform in this unit, averaged 5.3 percent of total <br />I vegetation cover. James starwort contributed nearly one-quarter of this percentage. Together, <br />blue flax and common yampa comprised one-third. American vetch and g~umweed contributed <br />one-fifth when combined. Western yarrow, nettle-leaf giant hyssop, pasture sage, showy <br />fleabane, white-flowered peavine, and Rocky Mountain penstemon were minor contributors. <br />False dandelion (Aaoseris gtauca ssp. I inia ), sharp-tip onion, weedy milkvetch (Astn3galus <br />'~ miser var. oblongifolius), arrowleaf bafsamroot, larkspur (Delphinium~_ nuttallianum), • <br />willow-herb, groundsmoke, showy goldeneye, mountain bluebells (Mere sia ciliata), curly <br />~ dock, willow dock (Rumex trian~c ulivalvis), and Pacific aster were present. Introduced annual <br />and biennial forbs averaged 5.8 percent of total vegetation cover. Twolobe speedwell <br />contributed three-quarters of this percentage. Together, yellow sweetclover, Jim Hill <br />mustard, and salsify accounted for the balance. Ironweed (Bassia hyss,~oifolia), bull thistle, <br />hound's tongue, prickly lettuce, early stickseed, tarweed, Russian thistle, and pennycress were <br />also present. Linearleaf collomia, a native annual forb, averaged 0.5 percent of total vegetation <br />cover. Oakleaf goosefoot (ChenoQ do ium glaucum), Richardson tansymustard (Descurainia <br />richardsonii), and microsteris were present. <br />The native shrubs; rubber rabbitbrush, chokecherry (Padus virainiana ssp. melanocaroa), <br />Wood's rose O3osa woodsii), silver sagebrush (Seriphidium canum), big sagebrush, Saskatoon <br />serviceberry, and mountain snowberry were present but did not contribute to total vegetation <br />cover. Moss accounted for 0.2 percent of total vegetation cover. <br />12 • <br />
