M-77-342)
Dear Mr. Humphries:
Included is the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) Annual 112d-3
Report for Climax Molybdenum Company's Henderson Mine and Mill (Permit No. M-
77-342), and our check for the $1,000.00 annual fee. We did not include in this report
any updates to our estimated reclamation costs since we are still in the process of working
with DMG to refine these numbers. Below is a summary of interim reclamation activities
conducted during 2002.
Mine Site
There were no new disturbances at the Mine in 2002, nor do we expect any in 2003. We
conducted no reclamation activities at the Mine in 2002. Additional detail on reclamation
completed at the millsite follows.
Mill Site
The tailings basin water pool increased to an elevation of 8,812 feet, which increased our
disturbed acreage in 2002 to 1,026 acres, from 1,010 acres in 2001. Based on past fly-
over survey information, Henderson believes this information is conservative. The
Henderson Mill continues to log the remaining forested areas around the tailings
impoundment that will be inundated by life of mine. The work was not completed as
planned in 2002, and work will continue during 2003. The Henderson Mill beetle
control-logging project, initiated during the 4'" quarter of 2000, is still ongoing. Beetle
infestation is so extreme that an additional logger was added to the project in 2002. The
Henderson Mill has obtained a Forest Agriculture Plan for its nearly 8,000 forested acres.
The 1-Dam wellfield project to capture groundwater below 1-Dam was completed and is
functioning as designed. Groundwater investigations below 3-Dam were initiated in
