SUBSIDENCE MONITORIN6 ANALYSIS
EVALUATION Of EXISTING MONITORING
MIDELY SPACED GRID Page -3-
Because of the reduced coal market and reduced production, only Point No. 74
needs to be installed and surveyed in 1985. CWI will mine in 1985 in the 8N-11N
panel below this monument.
Much of the reduction in subsidence monitoring is a direct result of reduced
production at Orchard Valley Mine. CWI believes that the closely spaced grid
will give information during this time and conditions will not change at the
widely spaced monuments to warrant taking additional data in these areas. On
the other hand, if production were to significantly increase and impact more
areas, CWI would immediately re-institute increased subsidence monitoring, as
required.
SUMMARY
CWI believes that subsidence monitoring is necessary for correct prediction of
subsidence-induced problems. We also believe it is unnecessary to continue to
gather data where information has already been obtained. Because of information
already gathered at some monuments and also reduced coal production, CWI feels
that suspension and/or delay of subsidence monitoring is prudent and justifi-
able.
