Introduction
• The information assembled in this 1997 Annual Hydrology Deport (ASR) includes data
collected from approved monitoring sites established at Sanaca Coal Company's (SCC) Seneca
II-W Nine (State Permit Ho. C-82-057). Locations o! monitoring sites discussed in this
report can ba found by referring to Ezhibit 7-1, Hydrology Monitoring Map, rhich may be
found in the Seneca ZI-W Permit Application Package (PAP).
All references to 1997 (or to "this yeaz") rill be for Water Yeaz 1997 (October 1, 1996
through September 30, 1997) unless otharriea noted. All tables referred to in the
follorinq text can be found in Appendix A. In addition, a table of contents for Appendu
A ie given at the beginning of that appendix. Figure 1 (Appendiz A) shore the azea mined
in 1997. Mining began at Sanaca II-W in Avquet 1990.
Field conductivity and pH meters rare calibrated prior to each day's use. The
conductivity meter is calibrated ueinq a potaeaivm chloride solution rith an electrical
conductivity in the 1000 to 3000 umhos/® range. The pH mater is calibrated ueinq NBS
traceable buffers rith pH values of 7 and 10.
•
Prior to October 1, 1989, all field conductivity values collected at Seneca II-W
monitoring cites rare not corrected for temperature (i.a., 25° C). Field conductivity
data atnrtinq on October 1, 1989 were temperature corrected to 25° C. The formula !or
correcting non-corrected conductivity data may ba found in the 1990 through 1992 AHRa.
SCC instituted in 1995 a nar monitoring site numbering system fox its new Pazadoz"~ rater
quality database. This nar system is detnilad in Table A. For convenience sake, this
table has been placed at the end of the Table of Contante (sea pravioue page). In
addition, Table 3, S••"~"~'y of Ground Water Monitoring Walls; Table 10, S••^^^~*y of Surface
Water Monitoring Sites; and the Table of Contents o! Appendices C through E have all been
revised to correlate the old Bite (and map) name to the new (Paradox) computer name. The
new computer name rill be used throughout the folloring text.
