LJ
ROCKY ]~LATS SOIL PLUTONIUM~9'zao SURVEYS FROM 1970 TO 1991

'il

u

~I
I

1
I
T}ie remaining sub-sectors of Sector 2 are associated more with values ascribed to Sector 7
which borders on the east. Sector 7 results are many times below the standard.
Graph 5 is a bar chart showing the results of samples taken at a 5-cm depth in ]991 for sub-areas
of Sector 1 and 2.
Graph 5
The pattern of the 5-cm results is essentially identical to those samples taken at 1/4 inch
depth. The higher values for 5-cm are generally smaller than the results at the 1/4 inch
depth. The results for sub-sector 1 A is significantly higher than the corresponding 1991
li4 inch depth sample. The result for areas 2D and 2I is commensurate with the results
for the 1 /4 inch sample. No visual differences other than those very subtle observations
noted above stand out. See USDOEb for more results comparing different surface soil
sampling methods and presentation of findings and analysis of the vertical distribution of
pl.utonium""Z`0 in soils.
20
