DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H. Getches, Executive Director
iiiiuiiriiiiiuiii
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SNELTON, Director
Richartl D. Lamm
Governor
T0: Joe Oliver
FROM: Jim Pendleton
RE: Empire Energy C
Technical Revis
MEMORANDUM
4 September 1984
ion's Semi-Annual Subsidence Report &
uest - Permit Number C-044-81
Pursuant to your request, I have reviewed Empire Energy Corporation's
semi-annual subsidence monitoring report for the Eagle #5 anti #9 Mines. The
report is prepared in accordance with the approved format. The report
indicates that subsidence has continued to develop above the monitored panelec
portions of the #5 Mine, approximately as predicted. In general, maximum
vertical subsidence has exceeded the projections contained within the original
permit application by up to 25X. The average angle of draw Fias proven to be
16°, but variation has been large, from 4.8° to 24.1° from vE~rtical.
The subsidence monitoring report is acceptable as submitted by Empire Emergy
Corporation.
Empire Energy also requests a technical revision to Permit No. C-044-81 to
reduce the monitoring frequency of the subsidence monitoring points shown on
the attached drawing, number EEC-83004-C, to an annual basis,. The operator
proposes to complete the annual survey during the summer months. to facilitate
access to survey monuments. I have no objection to this revision, with the
following conditions: (1) The "E" series monuments adjoining the gas pipeline
shall continue to be surveyed on a semi-annual basis, and (2) Surveying of
the "F-1" monument shall return to a semi-annual frequency upon resumption of
mining within the Eagle #9 Mine. With the imposition of these conditions,
approval of the annual subsidence monitoring survey frequent;/ is acceptable.
cc: Mike Long
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
