• cavity capable of sustaining the saturation necessary to keep the plant operating
efficiently.
With the halite problem persisting, the 7" liner in 88-1 was raised to within 8' of
the roof of the Boies Bed on 6!11/91. When surveyed, it was concluded that the
original position of the 7" casing liner was into the Oil Shale Marker Bed IOSMBI.
The 7" liner was raised to prevent chloride contamination of the liquor stream from
the halite zone located below the OSMB. Immediately after the 7" liner was
raised, a sonar survey was taken of the mined out area in the vertical recovery
well. With the 7" repositioned nearer the Boies Bed roof, the high levels of
chloride decreased significantly and is no longer a problem.
On June 18,1991, NaTec submitted "Applications To Drill" for an additional set of
• production wells. The BLM has approved the applications and drilling is planned to
begin in 1992 for production wells 91-1 and 91-2.
4.3.3 Monitoring Wells
During 1991, IRI-5 was recompleted from ashut-in multiple aquifer monitoring well
to a Perched Aquifer monitoring well. This well was drilled in 1981 by Multi
Minerals on what is called the maxi-pad, located approximately 3500 feet NNE of
the nearest production well. This Perched monitoring well compliments the IRI-8
well, also located at the maxi-pad. An updated downhole diagram of IRI-5 is
shown as Figure 4-6. Following the recompletion of IRI-5, work was started on
IRI-4 to remove the sampler and replace the defective 1/4" tubing and return this
well to an active A-Groove monitoring well. The workover was successful and the
• well is now being used to monitor the A-Groove aquifer at the maxi-pad location.
27
