i reduced the sodium chloride content of the product but did not solve
the problem. In addition, a purge stream was dumped to the process
pond. In June, the recovery well tubing was found to be lower than
anticipated, and after raising the recovery tubing into the mining
zone, the sodium chloride dropped significantly, see Figure 4-5.
g. As a result of material handling problems with compacted bicarb, the
compactors were removed from the plant and sold.
h. Minor modification of the storage dome included construction of
temporary wooden retainer walls in front of the access doors to
increase storage capacity (this was partially successful, enlargement
of holes over the feed conveyor to improve flow, and a screen was
utilized to eliminate oversized bicarb.

4.3.2 Production Wells
Currently, continuous monitoring of both production wells consists of temperature,
pressure, density and flow data. During the year some problems were
encountered with the density and flow meters. Both flow meters on the
productions wells failed due to an incompatibility with the high temperatures of
the injection and recovery fluids. The flow meters were taken ou, of service and
replaced with meters designed to handle the hot fluids used as part of the solution
mining process. In addition to the problems with the flow meters, the density
meters on each wellhead assembly were inconsistent and their reliability suspect.
Because of the high temperatures of the injection and recovery liquors, off
gassing of C02 (bicarb to carbonate conversion) would distort readings from the
Schlumberger Specific Gravity meters. These instruments are considered to be the
2a
