Proposed operations for 1992 will be described in this report,
as welt as status of all surface facilities and project wells. Technical
considerations and/or proposed changes in operations are presented.
On July 1, 1971, four sodium preference right leases were issued. During 1980-
1982 exploration, well drilling (11 holes) and environmental monitoring were
conducted on the leased lands. The first phase of development was a bulk
• sampling operation. This testing phase was in operation from late 1983 to early
1984. A second phase of development {fora 3-ton per hour pilot-scale mine) was
presented and approved in 1984. In 1985, revisions to the approved pilot mining
plan (fora 6-ton per hour pilot-scale mine) were submitted. Exploration wells EX-1
and EX-2 were drilled in 1985. An environmental assessment was completed by
the BLM, with approval on May 2, 1986. No development was initiated under this
plan. The third phase of development, a 125,000 TPY commercial-scale nahcolite
mine was evaluated in late 1986 and the environmental impact statement/record
of decision was approved in November of 1987, Project development in 1988 and
1989 involved drilling exploration well 88-1, and monitoring wells 89-1, 89-2, 89-
3 and recompleting EX-2. {Note all NaTec wells have a prefix of Na26-, {.e.
Na26-88-1.) Early in 1990, NaTec Minerals, Inc. submitted construction plans for
A
a 125,000 TPY facilities to the BLM and initiated site development.
