Soil Thickness
• The thickness of soil replaced during 1997 was verified by sampling. Sample sites for the New
Horizon 2 minim area were selected systematically utilizuig a 467 foot by 467 foot grid pattern.
Sites at New Horizon 2 were surveyed and staked in the field using a Geodimeter 510 total
swvey station.
A 2 ~/4 inch bucket auger was used at each site to excavate a pilot hole through the entire soil
strata. An abrupt boundary, defined by color and rock fragment content, typically occurred at
the soiVspoil interface. The replaced soil thicwiess was measured through the pilot hole
immediately after encowitering the spoil.
Soil thiclaiess was determined at the 26 sites at NH2 sho~~m on Exhibit 97.5. Soil thickness
iiiorn~ation for each sample site is located on the map.
New Horizon 2 his ma~iy different soil thickness requirements as sho~~Rr on Exhibit 97.7, which
is 2.05.4-4 from the current perniit.
Soil Salvage and Storage
All suitable soil has been salvaged ahead of Honing at New Horizon 2. Approximately 93,168
(LIFT 2), 20,090 (LIFT 1), and 42,387 (MIXED) cubic. yards of soil are stored ui stockpiles at
the end of 1997 as shovwi on Exhibit 97.9 (1997 Topsoil Balance Map). The soils were
separately stockpiled by soil types as specified by our permit.
• C ver ro
All topsoil stockpiles leave been planted with the approved cover crop seed mixtw•e.
Weed and Pest Control Activities
Weed control was carried out in the stunmer and fall months of 1997. Target species included
Russian Knapweed, Canada Thistle, Sun Flower, White Top and Field Bindweed. Spot spaying
was done at NHl & NH2, see Exhibit 97.1 & 97.4. The treated sites were small and random.
To small to plot on a map accurately. There was no Pest Control measures implemented in 1997
because there was no need at this time.
• (r. \data\wpdata\97recrepo.doc) 2
