iiiiiiiiiiiiiium
Richartl D. Lamm
Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H. Getches, Executive Director
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTO N, Director
MEMORANDUM
~~ 1 March 1985
T0:
FROM
RE:
Robert Liddle ~~(~_
Jim Pendleton ~-
ARCO Lands ide Rem ial Proposal - Electric Substation Slide
Pursuant to your request, I have reviewed West Elk Coal Company's proposed
landslide remedy for the slide located immediately above the upper electrical
substation at the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 underground coal mine. The plan proposes
the installation of a soldier pile and concrete lagged retaining wall upslope
from the substation. Following installation of the cable anchored structure,
the majority of the surficial landslide debris will be excavated to reduce the
hazardous exposure of the substation.
This plan is acceptable as proposed with the following reservation. The
applicant must determine whether this change in the mine's operational
configuration necessitates an amendment to the originally approved reclamation
plan. If an amendment is necessary, then the plan should be appropriately
amended, as soon as possible. If an amendment is submitted, your
consideration would include appropriate surety adjustment. In either case, I
recommend that we convey an approval for the proposed landslide remedy
promptly, in order to expedite the repairs.
jP/JP
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
