RAG Empire Corporation, Eagle Mine Water Quality Assessment CO-0034142
Total Recoverable Iron and Dissolved Zinc: Metals occur naturally in rock. Earth disturbances,
such as mining operations, expose rock to air and water creating a potential for these substances to be
present in elevated concentrations.
Using the mass-balance equation provided in the beginning of Section N, the acute and chronic low
flows set out in Section III, the ambient background concentrations shown in Section II, and the in-
stream standards shown in Section II, assimilative capacities were calculated. Because of the
proximity of the outfalls, the effluent flow, Qz, was set equal to the combined .design flow of 4.03
MGD (6.2 cfs) from Outfalls 003, 022, and 024 which represent the outfalls that dischazge mining
related waters. The data used and- the resulting calculations of the allowable' dischazge
concentrations, M2, aze set forth as follows:
• Table A-7 for chronic assimilative capacities based on current'FVS standards
• Table A-8 for acute assimilative capacities based on current TVS standazds.
• Table A-9 for cltronic assimilative capacities based on future TVS standards
Table A-10 for acute assimilative capacities based on future TVS standazds.
Table A-7
Chronic Assimilative Capacities for Metals
Based on Current TVS Standards
Fe, Trec
Table A-8
Acute Assimilative Capacities for Metals
Based on Current
Dis
21
Table A-9
Chronic Assimilative Capacities for Metals
Based on Future TVS Standards ~'
Appendix A Page 11 of 13
t
C1
r
