Bowie Resources Limited
Bowie No. 1 Mine
• 1998 Annual Hydrology Report
1 Mine, the date of mining, and the panel or section that undermined them
Table 7 contains a listing of all monitoring points that are potentially impacted by the angle of
draw of the underground workings of the Bowie No. 1 Mine. Since the mine is currently idle,
no prediction of potential monitoring point impacts is presented.
Ponds were sampled for water quality only when discharging or outflows were occurring.
Ponds in the permit area are typically spring-fed or seep-fled and exhibit diffuse non-
concentrated areas of inflow. Often the pond outlets present the only point of concentrated
Bow at which Bow measurements and field parameters can be obtained. Where possible, quality
measurements are obtained at the pond 'inlet. Stagnant water in ponds was not sampled since
water quality results would show the effects of evaporation and stock use and could not be used
to evaluate potential mine affects.
This report includes data collected specifically to meet requirements of the Division of Minerals
and Geology (DMG).
OVEM Groundwater Mouitoriug Wells:
Groundwater monitoring wells BO1 through B08 are near the East NTine facilities (see Map No.
• 8-1). Well B07 was monitored for annual water quality parameters as it is downstream of the
East mine facilities. Wells BO1 through B06 and Well B08 aze monitored semi-annually for
water levels to assess sbpe stability in and around the East mute facilities.
Patterns typically associated with these wells in the past were again evide~ during the 1998
monitoring yeaz. B03 is blocked and can no longer be monitored for fiekl pazameters or water
quality. Wells B01, BOS, B06 and B08 remained dry throughout the year. Wells B02 and B04
showed moderate water level fluctuations within the established normal ranges previously
documented. Conductivity values at B07 remained within the range of values previously
established. Other monitored parameters fluctuated slightly with established ranges. The 1993
report showed that sulfate and total dissolved solids may be slightly elevated at B07. In 1998
sulfates averaged 335 mg/I compared with the 1993 average of 380 mg/l. The 1998 TDS
average values were 1,040 compared with the 1993 average of 1,188 mg/1. The 1992 AHR
presented minimum and maximum values during a record from 4/83 to 10/92. The range for
sulfate was 64 to 731. The range fur TDS was 244 to 1,900. The 1998 values for sulfate and
TDS fall within the m;n;m~im and maximum values documented in the 1992 AHR
OVWM GrouudwaterMonitoring Wells:
One piezometer (OVWM) is installed in the fill at the Orchard Valley West Mine. This well is
currently monitored when accessible for water levels to evaluate fill stability. Monitoring resuhs
from 1998 indicate water levels consistent with past monitoring.

PeBez
