grade spoil samples from Yoast (Yoast #25 thru #32) and 3 from 2W (2W #26 thru 28).
Set 6 samples were delivered on December 12, 2006 and reported on January 12, 2007,
and include 5 fmal-grade spoil samples from Yoast (Yoast #33 thru #37). Set 7 samples
were delivered on August 9 and reported on September 13, and include all 14 reapplied
soil and 11 underlying spoil samples from the 6 backhoe pits (4 backhoe pits on 2W and
2 on Yoast). Set 8 samples were delivered on August 9 and reported on September 13,
and include 10 surface material samples from Seneca II (Seneca II #1 thru #i0). Set 9
samples were delivered on September 7 and reported on September 28, and include 5
surface material samples from Seneca II (Seneca II #11 thru #15). Data for an
approximate 10 percent rerun on all samples for QA/QC purposes are on file at IML.
Regraded Sooil Evaluation Results:
All regraded spoil samples collected in 2006 (including the 37 fmal-grade spoil samples
collected at Yoast and the 28 final-grade spoil samples collected at 2W) have "good-
rated" suitable quality material with no unsuitable parameters. Regraded spoil reaction
(pH) ranges from pH 6.7 (neutral) to pH 8.1 (moderately alkaline) for Yoast, and from
pH 6.0 (moderately acid) to pH 7.9 (moderately alkaline) for 2W. The average pH of
regraded spoil is 7.4 (slightly alkaline) for the 2W Mine, and 7.3 (neutral) for the 2W
Mine. Saturation percents aze all "good-rated" and range from 27.7 to 53.7. Average
saturation percent is 38.5 percent for the 2W Mine and 37.1 percent for the Yoast Mine.
Electrical conductivity (EC) values for all samples range from 0.17 to 4.6 (nonsaline to
slightly saline), with one sample (2 W, #27) at 8.09 (moderately saline). The average EC
value for Yoast is 2.21 (very slightly saline), and 2.41 (very slightly saline) for 2W.
Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) values range from 0.14 to 1.38 (nonsodic) for Yoast,
and 0.17 to 0.72 (nonsodic) for 2W. Regraded spoil textures aze primazily loam and silt
loam but also include clay loam, silty clay loam, sandy clay loam, silty clay, and clay.
Only two samples had clay texture but only one with greater than 50 percent clay (sample
Yoast #29 with 54% clay). Two samples had silty clay texture but each had less than 50
percent clay (2W #14 with 43% clay, and 2W #21 with 44% clay).
Acid-Base Potential (ABP) values aze all positive (greater than, "more positive", than the
threshold suitability value of-5 Tons of CaCO3 per 1000 tons of material). None of the
samples required the second analytical step of pyritic sulfur determination and
recalculation of AB Potential. Values range from 9.81 to 84.3 for the Yoast Mine, and
12.4 to 115 for the 2W Mine. Nitrate (Nitrate Ammonium-Nitrogen, ppm) values are all
suitable (<50) and average 4.3 ppm for all 65 samples (Yoast Mine, 37 samples; and 2W
Mine, 27 samples).
Reanulied Tousoil (Back6oe Pits) Evaluafion Resnks:
All reapplied topsoil samples collected from backhoe pits in 2006 have "good-rated"
suitability. For the 2W Mine, soil reaction (pH) ranges from 6.3 (slightly acid) to 7.4
(slightly alkaline), with an average pH of 6.8 (neutral). For the Yoast Mine, pH ranges
• from 6.4 (slightly acid) to 7.0 (neutral), with an average pH of 6.7 (neutral). For the
4
