EASTSIDE MINE
Water Monitoring Program
Introduction
Baseline surface water monitoring was obtained in September 1983
with a full suite of chemical parameters analyzed. Additional
surface and underground hydrologic sampling was analyzed for a full
suite of chemical parameters in April 1984. Eastside's hydrologic
monitoring program was initiated in July 1984. Surface and
underground field parameters were measured, and samples for
chemical parameters were collected as defined by Stipulation 1 of
the Mining and Reclamation Permit, C-84-063, approved January 14,
1985. Due to a large reduction in flow, monitoring of the two
underground wells and seep was eliminated. After three years of
quarterly sampling the full suite of chemical parameters with no
significant deviations or variations, the full suite of chemical
parameter sampling was reduced from quarterly to semi-annual
sampling.
The present surface sampling points are: 1-Harvey Gap Outlet-Above
Mine; 2-Harvey Gap Outlet-Below Mine; 3-Seep below Harvey Gap
Reservoir. The ground water sampling points are: 1-Mine water as
it is discharged from the pipe coming from underground; 2-Geotech
well located near the toe of the planned waste disposal pile. The
Geotech well was reclaimed in June of 1995.
The water monitoring program was initiated by Stephen Self, General
Manager. Current monitoring is performed by April Trent and
Stephen Self. Samples for the full suite of chemical parameters
are shipped to ACZ Laboratory in Steamboat Springs, Colorado for
analysis.
1
