Box 1352
Palisade, Colorado 81526
Re: Blue Ribbon Mine Annual Hydrologic Report, File No. C-81-047
Dear Mr. Stover:
We have completed our review of your 1985 Annual Hydrologic Report. The
report was well organized and did a good job of interpreting the results of
your monitoring data.
We would like your interpretation of the problem of discharge of total iron.
It appears to us that the iron is coming from the springs in the north end of
the pond. What are the trends for iron concentration in discharge water for
the past three years? What do you anticipate future trends to be.
The pH of water discharging from the three underdrains installed in the mine
bench was found to be acceptable. The average conductivity for the north and
middle drains was slightly above suspect levels for irrigation use. The
average conductivity of the south drain discharge was in excess of irrigation
water suspect levels. In future reports we would like you to conduct a simple
dilution analysis assuming a ten year low flow in Hubbard Creek of 1,6 cfs.
This analysis should use average and worst case conductivity as well as
quantity of discharge directly into Hubbard Creek. This type of an analysis
would demonstrate post-miing conditions after removal of the sediment pond.
It would also verify that no water quality standards are or will be violated.
Please feel free to call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~~~~ti ~~ t1'Y1ct~~~ ~,~
Susan Mowry
Reclamation Specialist
SM/pjh
cc: Tom Schreiner
8971E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
