Tab 21, Minesoil Reconstruction, in the PAP, indicates an estimated average of 1.8 feet (21.6 inches)
will be replaced over final graded spoil in the mine area and 1.1 feet will be replaced along Haul Roads
A and B and the facilities in Section 8. As determined by the 2005 mine wide sampling, topsoIl
replacement to date of 22.6 inches is right in line with the original projections of 21.6 inches.
REVEGETATION
• Seeding and Shrub Planting
A total of 96.6 acres were seeded/planted in 2005. Of that, 9.9 acres were newly established shrub
plots. The azea was seeded using Seed Mis #IA (see Table 05.2, Seed Mix #lA, for constituents).
Concentrated shrub seeding was conducted in 2005, in the areas where the seedling shrubs were
planted.
Shrub Plots. Approximately 18,200 seedlings were planted at Yoast; locations of the sites aze shown
on the attached 2005 Reclamation Map. Following is the breakdown indicating the number of
seedling species planted in each area.
Yoast 1
Gambel oak 1,700 Yoast 3: Along Drainage
Serviceberry 5,000 Boxelder 3,000
Chokecherry 2 500
9,200
Yoast 2
. Gambel oak 500
Serviceberry 5,000
Chokecherry 500
6,000
• Monitoring
ESCO Associates, Inc conducted revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas doting
the summer of 2005. The 2005 annual revegetation monitoring report is submitted as a separate
document.
• Weed Control
Survey for noxious weeds was carried out on the Yoast Mine permit area in 2005. Monitoring was
conducted in 2005 to deteutilne the need or level of retreatment necessary for areas sprayed in 2004.
Canada thistle was the primary tazget species in all control areas, with lesser activity duec[ed towards
areas of hounds tongue and whitetop. The applied herbicide consisted of a tank mix of 2.5 gallons of
22K Tordon and 2.5 gallons of 2,4,D with 250 gallons of water. Escort at the rate of one (1) oz. per
acre was spot sprayed on the whitetop. Control areas were sprayed in June, July and September. A
spot spray gun was used to concentrate control activities on target areas, reducing potential impacts to
adjacent desirable vegetation. The herbiude mix, based on recommendations from the Colorado
State Extension Service, was mixed and applied by the Seneca Mine Reclamation Manager and Dillon
Contracting who are certified commercial applicators. The weed control azeas will continue [o be
monitored in 2006 for effectiveness and necessary retreatment. See attached weed control daily log
spreadsheet and the Weed Control Areas map for a more detailed description of the 2005 herbicide
application.
