Topsoil depth, excluding the mixed topsoil and spoil layer, vaned in the pit from 18 to 26 inches in thickness. A & AC horizon - 0 to 12 inches; brown (1 OYR 4/3) loam to clay loam texture with 10% small gravels, dazk brown (IOYR 3/3) moist; moderate medium granu(az structure; soft to slightly hazd dry consistence, friable moist consistence, slightly sticky and slightly plastic wet consistence; common fine and very fine, and few medium roots; noncalcazeous, slightly acid (pH 6.5, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. . Cl horizon - 12 to 24 inches; brown (IOYR 4/3) silt loam to clay loam texture with 10% small gravels, dazk brown (lOYR 3/3) moist; massive structure; slightly hard dry consistence, friable moist consistence slightly sticky and slightly plastic wet consistence; common fine and very fine and few medium and coarse roots; noncalcareous, neutral (pH 6.5, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. C2/OBI horizon (mix of reapplied topsoil and weathered overburden spoil) - 24 to 44 inches; dazk grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) clay loam texture with 35% sandstone and shale fragments, very dazk grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; massive structure; hard to very hard dry consistence, firm moist consistence, sticky and plastic wet consistence; moderately calcareous, neutral (pH 7.2), from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. OB2 horizon (overburden spoil) - 44 to 64 inches; gray (lOYR 5/1) clay loam overburden spoil, dark gray (lOYR 4/1) moist; compacted, massive stmcture; extremely hazd dry consistence, very firm moist consistence, sticky and plastic wet consistence; moderately calcazeous, slightly alkaline (pH 7.4, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. 2W Mine Reclaimed Land Soil P& 2WTS-OS-PI (2W Pit 1) Sample site 2WTS-OS-Pl is located on reclaimed land at the 2W Mine.
