This was primarily due to the very active construction market throughout the Denver Metropolitan
area. Most of the operation remains very much as it was last year. There was much more activity at the Cut
Stone Quarry portion, but that disturbance remains rather small.
Annual Report Maps: Enclosed are three color maps showing the primary areas of disturbance and the
type of disturbance occurring in each area. Map 1 shows the entire site with just the affected land shown as
a shaded area. Maps 2 and 3 show the details with respect to each of the two portions.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land has changed with respect to last year, although the amount
of actual disturbance remains nearly the same. This change is due to a new method of locating and
identifying the affected land. That method is described in a later section.
The total affected land is 79.63 acres. A large portion (about 23 acres) of that is contained in the
access road affected land. The Cut Stone portion amounts to slightly more than 5 acres, including the
access road to that site. The remainder is involved in the main quarry operation, stockpiles, and office area.
Revegetation: No additional revegetation was done in the last year as no land was available.
Expected Activity (2000/2001): It is not expected that there will be any major expansion during the next
year. The Cut Stone quarry area may expand slightly and the main quarry will probably expand slightly
further northward. Portions of the main quarry will probably be reclaimed in the next year.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a self bond. Enclosed is a copy of the Report on Audit of
Divisional Balance Sheet for Schmidt Construction. Centennial Materials and Schmidt Construction are
financially related and are both subsidiaries of Edw. C. Levy Co.
Acreage Adjustments: Acreages reported this year are more precise than they were last year due to the
implementation of a regular aerial photography program utilizing AirPhoto services out of Pueblo. This
service provides excellent vertical as well as oblique photography, although the images are not stereoscopic.
When scanned into a computer and the disturbances traced and then transferred to the topographic map,
the errors are far smaller than can be done by estimation on the ground. This method is far less expensive
than stereo aerial photography or surveying and provides a convenient continuous record of the site.
Centennial Materials 2000 Annual Report M-1989-065 Winkler Light Aggregate Quarry Page 1 of 1
