Ponds 004 and OOB were surveyed in Oc Caber and July 1995, repactively, based on the
schedule in the 1994 Annual Reclamation Report and TR-15. Results have not yet been
computed for the 1995 surveys. As soon ae this data ie compiled it will be presented to the
Division. From the past history of sediment delivery to both of these ponds there should
still be more than adequate sediment storage available. Based on the information provided
shove, SCC recommends the next sediment surveys be conducted in 1997 for all four
sedimentation ponds.
Stock Tanks
SCC is required by Permit C-80-005, Volume 12, Tab 13, Appendix 13-9 (from TR-21) to
provide as-built drawings for all temporary stock tanks that were constructed in the
previous year. Several stock tanks at Seneca II were reconstructed during 1995. At years
end, none of the above-mentioned ponds were 100 percent complete or design considerations
had not been completely verified. Therefore, no as-built certifications are included with
this annual report. SCC has also initiated an in-house program to determine which ponds
are functioning as designed, or functioning as anticipated. Review of the data collected
by the SCC hydrologist and field inspections will help determine which (if any) stock tanks
. should be eliminated from the system. Ponds which are completed in 1996 will be certified
and the as-boil is will be submitted to the Division.
Wildlife Monitoring
Seneca Coal Company is active in the Colorado Bluebird Project, a volunteer organization
involving the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Colorado Audubon Society, in
establishing nest sites for the Mountain Bluebird. See Exhibit 95.5 Eor location of Blue
bird nesting boxes placed on the mine site. During April 1995 a Columbian Sharp tailed
Grouse lek was discovered on the reclaimed land at Seneca II Mine. Powder River Eagle
Studies, a wildlife consulting group, studied the lek £or nine days. Between 8 and 12
males regularly attended and displayed at the site. The paper prepared by Bonnie Postovit,
Powder River eagle studies and photographs axe presented in wilal ifs Tab.
Big game aerial survey data collected during January 1995 at Seneca II and Seneca Ii-w
Mines is presented in Hig Game Survey Tab.

R
