22R Tordon and 2.5 gallons of 2,4,-D with 250 gallons of water. Control areas were sprayed
in June. A spot spray gvn was used to concentrate control activities on target areas,
reducing potential impacts to adjacent desirable vegetation. The herbicide mix, based on
recommendations from the Colorado State Extension Service, was mixed and applied under the
supervision of the Seneca Mine Reclamation Supervisor who is a certified applicator. The
weed control areas will continue to be monitored in 1996 Eor effectiveness and necessary
retreatment.
Revege to tion Monitoring
Revegetation monitoring o£ permanently revege rated areas was conducted during the summer of
1995 by ESCO Associates, Inc. The 1995 annual revegetation monitoring report is submitted
as a separate document (ESCO and PWCC, 19961.
Grazing
Long yearlings were run in the Wedge Pasture during 1995. On July 27, 205 head were placed
in the wedge Pasture. On September 28, all cattle were moved oEf the Wedge pasture. Limited
amounts of grazing were allowed in the Pecoco Pasture in order to protect the re-seeding
work done in 1994. In addition, the Pze-law areas north of Pecoco Pasture and the old Wolf
Creek spoil areas were grazed with a roving band of 500 ewes and 690 lambs. The sheep
grazed those areas from August 3, 1995 until November B, 1995.
This grazing scheme resulted in 328 animal unit months (AUMs) of grazing in the Wedge
Pasture. Based on 1995 Wedge Pasture sampling data, the annual production was 4570 pounds
per acre, resulting in 1690 AUMe available. The resulting utilization in the Wedge Pasture
was 19 percent. See the 1995 Annual Revege to tion Monitoring Report Eor discussion
concerning the effects of grazing in the Wedge Pasture, (ESCO, 19961. Assumptions: 1 long
yearling = .8 AUM, requiring 648 pounds of Eorage per month. One AUM requires 810 pounds of
forage.
Chronological History of Revegeta [ion
Areas revege to tea from 1977 through 1995 at the Seneca II Mine aze shown on Exhibit 95.4.
Chronological History of Revegetation Activities.
Sedimentation Pond Surveys
SCC is required by Permit C-80-005 to monitor sedimentation ponds for sediment storage
capacities.
