The groupings of trees were planted as a visibility <br />screen and a wind break for operations at the West Elk Mine site. The species used were <br />quaking aspen (Popuius aemuloides) and Colorado blue spruce (Picea pungens). The <br />areas planted were north of Pond MB-2R, the northeast comer of the Lower Refuse <br />Pile and north and east of Pond MB-3. <br />Oak brush (Quercus gambe/ii) shrub clumps (15) were planted along the upper portion of <br />the reclaimed west-side of the Lower Refuse Pile. <br />In addition to the revegetated areas, Mountain Coal Company installed erosion <br />control (silt fencing) and cattle fencing at the following locations: <br />Lone Pine Gulch Development Waste and Topsoil Piles <br />Cattle Fence 1400 lineal ft. <br />Lone Pine Gulch Development Waste Pile (final sub-soil and <br />topsoil redistribution and grading) <br />Lower Refuse Pile (west slope sub-soil and topsoil <br />redistribution) <br />1.00 ac. <br />2.50 ac. <br />Total Backfilling, Grading, and Topsoiling 3.50 ac. <br />
