The groupings of trees were planted as a visibility screen and a wind break for operations at the West Elk Mine site. The species used were quaking aspen (Popuius aemuloides) and Colorado blue spruce (Picea pungens). The areas planted were north of Pond MB-2R, the northeast comer of the Lower Refuse Pile and north and east of Pond MB-3. Oak brush (Quercus gambe/ii) shrub clumps (15) were planted along the upper portion of the reclaimed west-side of the Lower Refuse Pile. In addition to the revegetated areas, Mountain Coal Company installed erosion control (silt fencing) and cattle fencing at the following locations: Lone Pine Gulch Development Waste and Topsoil Piles Cattle Fence 1400 lineal ft. Lone Pine Gulch Development Waste Pile (final sub-soil and topsoil redistribution and grading) Lower Refuse Pile (west slope sub-soil and topsoil redistribution) 1.00 ac. 2.50 ac. Total Backfilling, Grading, and Topsoiling 3.50 ac.
