M-1977-247, G-P GYPSUM CORPORATION
All contact information is current as listed on the Annual Fee and Report Request form This
operation is in closure status, the second yeaz of a five yeaz extension of the permit as approved
by the Mined Land Reclamation Boazd September 27, 2002. The extension was granted to give
the mine operator time to continue vegetative establishment in areas where grass and shrub cover
was selected as final reclamation.
2003 reclamation was geazed to broadcast seeding and mulching of areas determined to be in need
of vegetative establishment in order to meet the minimum requirements of closure standards, app.
20% ground cover of a diverse stand of native grasses, shrubs, and tree species. Field work
performed during the past yeaz included maintenance of storm ditches and settling azeas which
control the movement of surface water flows during storm events and the maintenance of deer
damage control devices that have placed over certain tree species over the past number of years.
Eventually, all cages will be removed as the trees grow large enough to sustain deer browse
without critical harm to the tree. Ponderosa pine aze especially susceptible to browse damage for
five to eight yeazs after initial planting. Cages aze removed when the tree has grown lazge enough
to not have the crown browsed off or when the specimen has grown into the cage, restricting
further growth.
Four hundred pounds of native grass seed mix and two hundred pounds of native shrub seed mix
was broadcast over selected azea ofthe site, including Copper Hill, Copper Hill pit azea, Alpha
Hill lower slopes, main haul road comdor in Senatore Hill Area, Zinc Hill Highwall, and southern
end of Gold Hill. All of the seeded azeas were followed up with application of straw mulch at a
rate of 3000# per acre. Sixty tons of clean wheat straw mulch were applied using a Finn B-70
mulch blower.
Plans for 2004 aze to continue with seed and mulch applications and maintenance ofroadways,
ditches, and tree seedlings as necessary.
