•
•
open plots, when compared to July caged (to exclude grazing) plots, indicate a difference of
+28% for caged plots. Heavy usage by cattle on the mine site in the spring months of 2000
is presumably the reason for the difference between caged and open plots. Extremely
heavy shrub use was noted from extended cattle use of the area. Herbaceous production
(grass and forbs) per species is shown on Table 6-20 with western wheatgrass,
needlegrass, June grass, and Phlox hoodii, the most productive species. Figure 6-18
illustrates 1992 through 2000 production for July open and caged. Grass seems to vary
more than forbs as a result of precipitation. Percent cover data for July caged compared to
July open indicated notable differences (see Figure &-19). The percent cover of grass and
forbs were slightly higher when grazing was restricted and bare, rock, and litter were lower as a
result of higher density of grass and forbs. Shrubs and trees were similar for open and caged
plots.
6.2.2 Ceer Road Kill Study
•
Per the monitoring requirement from the BLM, WRN compiled deer road kill data throughout
2000 for vehicles traveling to and from the mine site. Six deedvehicle accident were reported in
2000.
2000 Date
1125
126
3/14
3/14
1215
1228
Location
Hwy 13 Mile Marker 11
RBC 31 Mile Marker 2
RBC 5 Mile Marker 19
RBC 5 Mile Marks 1
Hwy 64 Mile Marker 64
Hwy 13 Mile Marker 19
Vehicle Collision Commems
HiUkilling yeading buck
Hit/run oft, mature dce
HiUkilling mature dce
Hit/killing yearling dce
HiNtilling mature dce
Hil/run oft, yeading buds
84
