No.: Primary Refuse Disposal Areas
Inspection Period: First Quarter 2003
Inspection Date: 2/13/03
General Description or Reference to Site Plan:
ii,E~~ ~ :~,- ,
~~9D
~ ...~
_ _ --~ -... aou~upY
~~Vision of ly~nerafs and Cealeay
The refuse area lies west of the main facilities area. Refuse has been placed in designed lifts
on a relatively flat terrain. Upslope runoff is diverted away from the disposal area, while runoff
from the disturbed area is channeled to a sediment control pond. The majority of the refuse
disposal area has been reclaimed previously and exhibits good vegetative'growth. The mine is
now in final reclamation and the all remaining disposal areas have been sloped to final grade,
covered with topsoil, and seeded to a cover crop.
Activity During Inspection:
The area.was idle at time of inspection. It is evident that all areas have been regraded to final
contour and covered with subsoil and topsoil material. The mine has requested and received
from the Division approval for seeding the reclaimed area with only a cover crop The area has
been seeded, but due to the extremely dry conditions, limited germination was noted.
No activity has occurred this quarter.
Drainage: (Discussion of springs. seeps, overland and channel flow, underdrain construction and/or
discharge, integrity of 100-year 24-hour drainage structures, and evidence of positive drainage).
No springs or seeps were observed on the refuse surtace. Positive drainage has been maintained
on the reclaimed areas. Drainage and diversion structures were intact. AI! required untlerdrain
construction has been completed.
Observation of Fill Construction: (Description of material, compaction, lift thicknesses, slopes,
and construction methods).
No refuse placement has occurred since December of 2000. Prior to cessation of mining, waste
material was placed in alternating lifts of fine and coarse material in accordance with the plan as
described in the TerraMatrix report dated December 5, 1996,
