The spill happened when a boulder hit the fuel tank of a haul truck and the tank
cracked. The spill was immediately contained and absorbed by crusher fines. No waterways were
impacted. The spill remained onsite until the next morning. No precipitation fell during the night, so no
stormwater was affected.
I contacted the following people between 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm on June 30:
Colorado Spill Response line -Spill # 2005-411
National Response Center -Spill # 764025
Division of Minerals and Geology -spoke with Larry Oehler - a copy of this report is being sent to
Harry Posey for their records
On July 1, 2005, Waste Management dispatched two trucks to pick the load up and dispose of it for
Lafarge under manifests 237575 and 237576. Approximately 32 yards of soil were removed. The soil
was removed down to bedrock, approx. 5 inches from ground level at that location. A random composite
sample of the spill area after the excavated material was removed was taken and submitted for analysis at
Evergreen Analytical Laboratories. The attached sheet shows that levels of contaminants are below 500
ppm for all chemicals analyzed.
If you have any questions or require further information, please contact me at (720) 244-6522.
Sincerely,
Tamra L.
