l
i
seasonal fluctuations, and water levels this year within their historic
ranges, although some lag time for the spring recharge is observed.
Well YOV28 (downgradient of the 1996/99 mine pit in Armand Draw) has
I
experienced a decrease in water levels since August 1996. Well YOV29
has experienced a decrease in water levels since October 1998 and has
been dry since May 2000. Well YOV30 has also experienced a decline in
water levels in past years, although, recent measurements show an
increase.
- Wadge Coal. Five wells; YW7, 19, 28, 29, and 30; monitor the Wadge
coal; seam. Monitozing at Well YW14 was discontinued in July 2001 (see
Introduction). Well YW28 exists in the Armand Draw basin, all others
exist in the Sage Creek basin. Due to the low aquifer transmissivities,
seasonal water level fluctuations are much less pronounced than the
alluvium and overburden, and are often masked by water sampling effects.
Most wells exhibited water levels this year within their historic
. ranges. Well YW28 {downgradient of the 1996/99 mine pit in Armand Draw)
has experienced decreasing water levels since October 1996. In the Sage
., Creek basin, water levels at Well YW30 are increasing, while water
levels at Well YW29 are decreasing.
- Wadge Underburden. Four wells; YWU16, 28, 29, and 30; monitor the.
Wadge underburden. Well YWU28 exists in the Armand Draw basin, all
others exist in the Sage Creek basin. Most of these wells do not
exhibit any significant seasonal variation, although some variation from
year-to-year is evident. Wells YWU16 and 30 exhibited water levels this
ye air within their historic ranges. Well YWU28 (downgradient of the
1996/99 mine pit in Armand Draw) has experienced decreasing water levels
from June 1996 to September 1997, but since then has experienced an
increase in water levels. In the Sage Creek basin, Wells YWU29 and 30
have experienced decreases in water levels since May 1999.

- Wolf Creek Coal and Underburden. One well each monitors these two
units, YWC31 and YWCU31. Both wells exist in the Sage Creek basin.
Well YWC31 exhibits very little seasonal variation. Its water levels
have been increasing since 1995. Well YWCU31 is normally dry.
4
