at the New Elk Mine. This monitor station was located within the area of anticipated moderate
. levels of potential contamination, and to monitor the influence of the groundwater surface to
pumping from recovery well R W -I.
MW-9: MW-9, a well, was drilled to chazacterize and monitor remediation work of apparent
leakage from underground storage tanks (removed) located near the Industrial Building at the
New Elk Mine. This monitor station was located within the area of anticipated moderate levels of
potential contamination.
MW-I0: MW-I0, a well, was drilled to characterize and monitor remediation work of apparent
leakage from underground storage tanks (removed) located near the Industrial Building at the
New Elk Mine. This monitor station was located within the area of anticipated moderate levels of
potential contamination, and to monitor the reaction of the groundwater surface to pumping from
recovery well R W -1.
Inactive Stations
ACA W -1: A dip sample from an alluvial well located in the Apache Canyon alluvium at the
mouth of Apache Canyon. It was established to monitor potential effects of secondary or retreat
mining. This station is currently inactive as per CDMG approval.
• ACF-1: A grab sample from, and a measurement of, a stream flume located in Apache Canyon
approximately one-half mile from the confluence with the Purgatoire River. It was established to
assess potential effects of secondary or retreat mining on stream quality and flow. This station is
currently inactive as per CDMG approval.
WPD-1: A grab sample station of the West Portal Mine discharge pipe at the New Elk Mine located in
the inactive West Portal Area. As with station NE-001, no data has been collected since 1989 due to the
sealing of the mine.
Thickener Pump: This site was established to monitor flows from the New Elk prep plant thickener into
the New Elk mine workings (TR-34). This activity has not been initiated.
Recycling Pump: This site was established to document the pumping of water from the New Ells
workings at NEW -4 to the Prep Plant. Picketwire has not initiated the thickener
recycling project as of this date.
•
12
