As the West
Elk Mine is an underground mine and the disturbed area covers the life-of--mine facilities area, no
permanent reclamation was completed during 2000, on the mine site. However, Minor Revision
No. 270, "Thermal Event" (MR-270), requires that approximately 15 acres of roads and drill
pads be permanently reclaimed, and that United States Forest Service (USES) roads used in
conjunction with the emergency project be substantially reduced in width and degraded to 4-
wheel drive only roads. During calendaz year 2000, MCC completed approximately 6.5 acres of
permanent reclantation, which included backfilling, grading, fertilizing, seeding, and mulching of
pads and roads associated with MR-270. Attached is a map showing the locations of
permanently reclaimed areas associated with MR-270, completed in 2000.
MCC did not complete any interim reclamation in areas at either the main mine site or in the
Sylvester Gulch Facilities Area.
Please call if you have any questions.
Since y,
~~~
eery A. be
Environm tal Eneineer
cc: Phil Schmidt
Availability of Records
OOart.doc
