' Ken Coa( Company 1991 Annua! Hydrology Report ~ 3
3.0 MINE AREA CONFINED GROUND WATER
Water levels were measured and samples taken at the wells designated in the
Monitoring Plan during October, 1990 and April, 1991. The field data from the
Confined Ground Water Wells are contained in Exhibit 1, 1991 Field Data.
Confined ground water falls into two categories: Mine Area Coal Aquifer and
Mine Area Overburden. The Mine Area Coal Aquifer wells are designated as 79-
27, 79-32, 79-36 and 79-61. The Mine Area Overburden wells are designated
as 79-1 and 79-2. The individual analyses of samples collected are presented
in Exhibit 2, 1991 Coal Aquifer Water Quality Analyses and Exhibit 3, 1991
' Overburden Water Quality Analyses. The data are summarized on Table 1,
1991 Ground Water Statistics.
' Mine Water Coal Aquifer
During 1991, a small amount of ground water was encountered in the mine pits
indicating no obvious impact on ground water resources, however, the majority
' of the water encountered was a result of snowmelt and precipitation. The
chemical makeup of the ground water in the coal aqu'rfer is sodium-bicarbonate-
' sulfate. The coal aquifer remains much lower in total dissolved solids than the
overburden aquifer, indicating perched aquifers with no intermixing. Table 1,
' 1991 Ground Water Statistics, presents the water quality summary for the year.
' For comparison purposes, the mean field parameter values and analyses
parameter values for the last six years are presented in Table 2, Historic Mine
' Area Coal Aquifer Water Quality Data. As shown all parameters show little or
no change over the past six years.

1 ACZ Inc. • PO Bnc 777013 ' Sreamboal Springs, Colorado 30177 • (3031879-0?60
