Dan Mathews Aoril 4, 2007
selected species/components within stands where the components are poorly
represented may be necessary to meet bond release standards. We would
encourage SCC to consider submittal of a future revision application to address
these concerns, although it may be prudent allow for a period of time to assess
the initial results of the North Decline cheatgrass suppression/interseeding
project, before pursuing further "husbandry" or "remedial" treatments. We would
note that two of the cool season grasses (crested wheatgrass and Russian
wildrye) and one of the subshrubs (prostrate kochia) are non-native species, and
as such, use of these species would likely reinitiate the full 10 year liability
period. The inclination to avoid introduced species so as not to reinitiate the full
10 year liability period, should be weighed against the ability of alternative native
species to establish and persist in the presence of cheatgrass competition, as
effectively as the introduced species. Please give consideration to these
issues and provide a written response.
SCC: The following is the comment Snowcap received from Cedar Creek
Associates.
"In the interest of not resetting the 10-year liability period, and following review of
the options provided, the recommended species for the "interseeding" seed mix
has been amended to include only native species. It is likely that there will be
future modifications of the species in the mix and seeding rates as the North
Decline cheatgrass suppression project is analyzed.
S ecies
Warm-season Grasses
Galleta Pleuraphis jamesii
Curly Mesquite Hilaria belangeri
Big Galleta Pleuraphisrigida
Cool-season Grasses
SVeambank wheatgrass Elymus lanceolatus ssp.psamm.
Thickspike wheatgrass Elymus lanceolatus ssp. 1.
Bluebunch wheatgrass Pseudoroegneria spicata ssp. s.
Perennial Forbs &subshrubs
Palmer penstemon Penstemon Palmeri
Prairie sage Artemisia ludoviciana
Sulfur Buckwheat Eriogonum umbellatum
Desert Globemallow Sphaeralcea ambigua
Gardner saltbush Atriplex gardneri
Winterfat Krascheninnikovia Janata
Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
o,-
on Hammond
Owner's Representative
Lbs/acre Seeds/FtZ
2.0 7.30
1.0 6.20
1.0 8.03
1.0 3.20
2.0 7.07
1.0 3.20
0.5 7.00
0.25 26.0
0.5 2.40
0.5 5.70
1.0 2.56
2.0 2.60
12.75 81.26
cc: DRMS Denver Office
