• Bowie Resources Limited May 12, 2003
Bowie No. 2 Mine
Annual Hydrology Report
Surface Water Monitoring Stations: STREAMS AND DITCHES
Thirty four surface water monitoring stations including the North Fork of the Gunnison, Terror
Creek, Hubbazd Creek, Freeman Gulch, the Deer Trail Ditch, Stephens Draw, the Fire Mountain
Canal and Gulches A through D are monitored quarterly for field pazameters and semi-annually
for full suite analysis. The results of the 2001 field and laboratory studies aze consistent with
baseline information supplied in the permit application. This flow reading is obtained
telemetrically from a station neaz Somerset, Colorado.
The USGS, with right of way permission from the USDA-Forest Service, has installed continuous
monitoring stations on both Hubbard and Terror Creeks. The stations shown here aze the upper
stations. Similar stations are installed neaz each creek's confluence with the North Fork of the
Gunnison Rivet
These stations have been calibrated by the USGS's hydrology department and now provide
accurate readings for the 2002 Annual Hydrology Report.
Surface Water Monitoring Stations: SMALL AREA EXEMPTIONS
The locations of the small area exemptions aze presented on Permit Map 20. The Applicant will
• monitor the flow from the small area exemptions to assure compliance with 4.05.2(3). The
Applicant will use its best efforts to obtain samples. The samples will be analyzed for pH,
conductivity and total settleable solids. Samples will be in compliance if they contain settleable
solid levels of 0.5 ml/1 or less and the pH is greater than 6.5 and less than 9.0.
Run-off from the material storage area located below drainage azea E and pond C does not go
through a treatment facility such as a sediment pond. The material storage azea is located north of
the haul road along the old rail bed. Run-off from the haul road along the old rail bed does not go
through a treatment facility either. Run-off from these adjacent areas is controlled by berms and
ditches. A berm along the south side of the azea contains drainage to the ditch on the north side
of the material storage area. Run-off from the material storage azea and haul road is directed to
ditch D-E1. Sediment traps will be installed in ditch D-El as shown on Map 21-1. The sediment
traps will be straw bales, silt fences or other approved devices. The sediments traps will slow and
remove sediment from the run-off from the material storage area and haul road. The sample point
for this SAE neaz the dewatering valve for pond C.
Incidental run-off from the pump station located near the Deer Trail Ditch will not be contained in
a sediment pond. The pump station is located below old State Highway 133 in a location where
sediment pond construction would be difficult. Run-off from the area disturbed by the pump
station construction will be filtered through a sediment trap such as straw bales, silt fences or
other approved devices. The location of the sediment trap for the pump house is presented on
Map 21-1. No samples were obtained from any of the SAE's during the yeaz.
• 4
