• s•
TRANSPORTATION ACTIVITIES
A diminished quarry workload decreased our winter
transportation activities. We have returned to a seasonal trucking
pattern. Trucking showed an increase in volume generally in late
spring and diminished by early winter. Our trucking pattern is
directly related to market conditions and demand for our products.
Movement of our products is conducted with safety being our
utmost concern. When trucks "bunch" leaving the quarry during peak
traffic periods, 7:30 am to 9:00 am and 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, they
are specifically routed (split North and South) to minimize
traffic impact. Road improvements have resulted in minor impact to
current traffic flow on Highway 93.
water Turbidity
During the recent year, circumstances requiring testing did
not exist. There are no new water resources used either for mining
or reclamation.
Reclamation Activities
Grading and removal operations are being conducted to allow
the quarry floor to be level with the surrounding area. A slight
crown will be left in the middle of the property running North and
South to allow for a natural draining pattern.
Reclamation continues as per the original MLRD approval, with
the exception of a shale formation protruding in a North to South
direction along the West edge. The shale was not anticipated when
mining commenced and subsequently has been "mined around." The
shale formation will be aesthetically graded and reclaimed as
mining allows. We are currently researching potential markets for
shale products. if a market becomes available, the topography will
be graded as originally intended.
We reclaimed approximately 2 acres this past year. we
continued reclamation North along the "high wall" area. This area,
and previously seeded areas continue to do well. We have found
that when seeding, rolling, or compacting the seed into the top
soil, it is necessary to prevent wind loss and insure a higher rate
of ground cover. We anticipate an additional 2 acres will be
started beginning the summer of 1994.
Air Ouality
Asphalt Paving Co. continues to comply with applicable air
quality standards and regulations. In compliance with state
standards proper permits have been issued for our operation. Our
superintendent is instructed to notify Jefferson County if he
anticipated "upset" conditions.
Noise Monitoring
Noise levels have not exceeded those levels established by the
state of Colorado or federal regulations. Asphalt Paving Co.
conducts property line monitoring, which has proven to be minimal
or non-existent.
