februory 1998 H~G Coa[ ]997Annrdal Rerlamation Report ~ PaAe 4
• This yeaz:s vegetation survey results indicate that the reclaimed area vegetation meets all of the
success crtteria for determining successful revegetauon of the site.
2.1 SHRUB PLANTING
In an effort to improve the shrub density on the reclaimed mine area, HGCC established four
shrub augmentation areas during 1996. In conjunction with the shrub augmentation plan,
HGCC submitted a revised mine site shrub density standazd which was approved by DMG.
The new scandazd is a minimum of 750 woody stems per acre in the four shrub augmentation
aeeas and 200 stems per acre for all other reclaimed areas.
The four shrub augmentation areas were sampled independently of the remaining mine site
during May 1997. The average shrub density in the four augmentation areas was 657 stems per
acre. The shrub count indicated that Pazcel E and Parcel 004 South both contained less then
the required 750 stems per acre. Consequently, during 1997, these two parcels were planted
with additional plants to raise the stem count above 1,000 stems per acre. The supplemental
planting consisted of 930 currancberry and 578 Woods rose.
C J

Montgomery Watson Ameriras, Inc. ~dba TerraMatrix)
PO.
