CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY'S
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
1987 ANNUAL REPORT FOR: PIREVIEW QUARRY
PERMIT NUMBER: 77-211
DATE OF INSPECTION FOR DATA IN REPORT: MAY 11, 1987
SUMMARY: During the year the operation did not change much
from the previous year with respect to the location of the
various activities involved in the operation. Approximately
11 to 12 additional acres were placed in reclamation status.
The areas of reclamation included the waste pile, the slope
south of the shop area, the west end of the slope north of
the shop area and east of the new processing plant. Success
of the reclamation efforts accomplished to date has
continued to show excellent results. The operation will not
change greatly during the next year.
RULE 2.41 1 LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES AFFECTED DURING THAT YEAR.
The annual report map included with this report shows the areas
where various activities occurred during the past year. Mining occurred
over an area of about 8 acres with virtually all of it occurring in
Tract AB. No mining occurred in Tract AC.
Processing of the rock occurred in Tract B and in the eastern
portions of Tract AA. Access roads were utilized in all of the tracts
as is shown on the map.
In brief, there were few changes from last year with respect to the
area affected.
RULE 2.41 2 LOCATIONS AND NUMBER OF ACRES RECLAIMED FOR THAT YEAR.
Considerably more reclamation work was initiated this year than was
the case last year. Last year the reclamation only involved the slope
north of the shop under Technical Revision #5, an area of about 3 acres.
This year the total area placed under reclamation was about 11 to 12
acres in three locations.
The first and largest area placed under reclamation was the large
waste pile. The pile was not graded, but topsoil was applied to the
entire face. Although the pile slope is at or near the angle of repose,
previous "tests" showed that by simply dumping soil over the slope
produced a stable area capable of sustaining good growth and exhibiting
little erosion. Using this same philosophy, soil was dumped on the
slope to a depth of 5 to 10 inches. This soil came from nearby land
developments, primarily the Mountain Shadows area to the southeast of
the operation. The soil came from areas dominated by Mountain Mahogany,
Gambel Oak, and small amounts of Juniper, Ponderosa Pine, and a very
small amount of Pinyon Pine. The original vegetation on the soil was a
Page 1 of 5 Permit 77-211 Pikeview Quarry 1987 Annual Report
